“BIBLIO-ISOTOPES”
A BOOK SOCIETY AT THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE STUDIES

“Biblio-isotopes” is the Book Society of the Department Theatre Studies. It is a network dedicated to literature and the arts, a forum where people can meet and exchange ideas and views about books. Book Society “Books-at-the-same-place” aims to rekindle in people the desire to read. It aspires to become a hub for studying literary or oratory genres from ancient to modern Greece, as well as gradually approach diverse works of renowned authors from various parts of the world and cultures. Reading a good book can transcend a person beyond her daily horizons and introduce her to difference meanings, messages, values, worlds and ways of lives.
Starting out by bringing together authors and creators of the local community, and primarily from Argolis and the Peloponnese region, this Book society will open up new pathways of communication by promoting intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue. In fact, a whole part of the “Books-at-the-same-place” function is associated with the online communication between the readers, the authors and all those who are interested in literature and the arts. This is realized either by visiting the webpage of the Department of Theatre Studies or accessing other relevant websites.
Selected activities of the Biblio-isotopes Book Society
• Book presentation by the author followed by discussion from a group of experts
• Panel discussion regarding a book that has been selected to be reviewed
• Public reading or recitation of a work of literature ( i.e. an excerpt from a play, a poem or a novel) by the author, the students or the participants (dramatic reading)
• Book reading by a group of people (book marathon) after official invitation
• Discussion of a book in relation to the arts (theatre, cinematography, dance, etc.).
• Workshops, colloquiums, conferences, permanent, short-term or mobile exhibitions, competitions about literature and theatre or other social events on topics related to writing, translation, literature of a certain period or place, or the connection of books or authors, etc.
• Activities for the young and old, such as creative writing, dramatization, book creation, and online interaction.
• Dramatic or public reading, storytelling, puppetry or shadow puppetry, theatre shows or competitions, etc.
The “Biblio-isotopes” Society is located at the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Peloponnese, and most of its activities take place in Nafplio. We are seeking collaboration with other organisations. Educators working at every level of education, public or private, formal or informal, including lifelong learning, are welcome to become members. We also invite every resident of Argolis and the Peloponnese, regardless of what their occupation or educational background is, to get involved in these activities. As the Greek society is facing many challenges due to today’s economical and ethical crisis, this network can bring people together providing multiple means of expression and reflection.
Finally and with great pleasure, the “Biblio-isotopes” Society invites and encourages children and teenagers to become more motivated to read, so that they may develop and become active, caring and responsible citizens.
The events are free of charge and are open to anyone. Anybody who wishes to receive regular updates by email may sign up as a member. Information can also be found at the Library of the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Peloponnese in Nafplio.
