Eleni Papalexiou, Associate Professor

Papalexiou

Eleni Papalexiou is Associate Professor at the Department of Theatre Studies, of the University of the Peloponnese. She holds a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne University (Centre de Recherche sur l’Histoire du Théâtre, Paris IV-Sorbonne, 2005). She has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Athens, as a grantee of the Greek National Scholarship Foundation.

She is the author of the monographs Travelling to the Land of Utopia. Ariane Mnouchkine and the Théâtre du Soleil (Κapon, Athens – forthcoming), Romeo Castellucci/Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio. When the Words Turn into Matter, (Plethron, Athens: 2009) and La tragédie grecque sur la scène contemporaine (ANRT-Université de Lille 3, Lille: 2005), and she has edited the collective volume Creative Archives as Living Landscapes of Memory in the Digital Era (CR.E.ARCH.-FagottoBooks, Athens: 2022). She has also widely published in six languages in international journals and volumes. She has given lectures as a key-note and an invited speaker in Greece and abroad and she has participated with original papers in international conferences.

She possesses considerable experience in cultural documentation, in digital culture research, as well as in the direction of international research projects and teams.

She is the Principal Investigator of the running research project: a) Genesis. Performing Arts: Genetic Research and Digital Visualization (Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation ELIDEK, 2020-2024) and b) Archive of Dimitris Papaioannou. Documentation, Digitization, Innovative Research and Promotion, funded by the Greek Ministry of Culture (2020-2023)

She was the Principal Investigator on behalf of the University of the Peloponnese of the European Projects CR.E.ARCH. - CReative European ARCHives as innovative cultural hubs και ARGOS - Actes de Création et Dynamiques de Collaborations Croisées dans les Arts de la Scène («Creative Europe» 2018-2021).

She is a National Ambassador of the European Flagship Project Time Machine, member of the advisory board of the European Journal of Theatre and Performance, an active member of ICARUS (International Centre for Archival Research) and a research collaborator of the Creative Europe project Co:op. Community as opportunity: the creative archives’ and users’ network.

She was the main researcher of the Research Project Archivio (University of Crete, 2012-2013) and a founding member of the European Research Project ARCH-Aristeia ΙΙ: Archival Research & Cultural Heritage (University of Athens and collaborating institutions, 2014-2015) ‒ both concerning the archive of Romeo Castellucci and the Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio. Today she is the curator and academic advisor of this archive and she is responsible of the ARCH working team. Thanks to the above mentioned research work, the archive was declared of major historical interest and importance by the Italian Ministry of Culture (2015).

As a Fulbright visiting scholar she conducted research at Stanford University (Department of Classics & Department of Theater and Performance Studies, 2014-2015). She is also in close collaboration with Stanford University as the Academic Coordinator in Greece of the Educational Program Stanford Spring Break in Greece (Nafplion 2018).

From 2021 she is a member of the Academic Committee of the MA Programme of Studies “Performing Arts”, offered by the Hellenic Open University, in which she also coordinates three courses.
