Career Prospects of Graduates
Some of the career opportunities available to graduates, closely linked to the learning outcomes of the Department of Theatre Studies' Study Programme, include the following:
1. Educators at all levels of formal and post-secondary education
Graduates are qualified to work as educators across all levels of formal and post-secondary education, as they are automatically awarded the Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Ministry of Education. Employment opportunities include Primary and Secondary Education, Arts Middle and High Schools, Second Chance Schools, Vocational Training Centres, public and private Institutes of Vocational Training, Regional Training Centres, Teacher Training Programmes, Professional Development Programmes, Adult Education Centres and other lifelong learning institutions, higher schools of dramatic arts, directing schools, dance schools, film schools, conservatories, and related educational institutions.
2. Artists and Performing Arts Professionals
Graduates may pursue careers as creators, artistic collaborators, performers, production assistants, assistant set and costume designers, video artists, performance artists, technicians, animators, and other theatre and performance professionals. They may work in theatre production and artistic expression, community and social settings, projects involving vulnerable social groups, as well as in the tourism sector.
3. Theatre Organization Professionals
Graduates may serve as dramaturgs, theatre programme curators, and coordinators of theatrical activities in both public and private theatre organizations, including state theatres, national stages, Municipal and Regional Theatres (DI.PE.THE.), subsidized and independent theatre companies, festivals, and related cultural institutions.
4. Cultural Affairs and Arts Management Specialists
Career opportunities also include positions as cultural managers, artistic programming and production consultants, and coordinators of artistic activities within public and private sector organizations, such as ministries, regional and local authorities, festivals, theatres, museums, arts and cultural venues, educational and cultural institutions, archives, libraries, foundations, research centres, social organizations, and media outlets.
5. Cultural Journalists, Editors, and Theatre and Arts Critics
Graduates may work as cultural journalists, editors, theatre critics, and arts critics in the media and publishing sectors, including newspapers, magazines, online media, radio, television, and publishing houses.
Graduates of the Department of Theatre Studies also possess the necessary theoretical and artistic background to pursue postgraduate and doctoral studies in Greece or abroad, with the ultimate goal of an academic career in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and other public or private research, cultural, or scientific organizations.
Furthermore, upon obtaining their degree, graduates are entitled to register as full members of the Panhellenic Scientific Association of Theatre Scholars (PESYTH).
