Department Chair's welcome 

Dear all,

A very warm welcome to the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of the Peloponnese. Our Department has been contributing to the fields of theatre studies and the performing arts for more than two decades, while also cultivating a dynamic academic environment.

The identity of the Department of Theatre Studies is founded on the creative interaction between art, scholarship, theory and practice, as theatre constitutes a complex field of knowledge and expression, directly connected to education, culture, and society.  

The Department of Theatre Studies is based in Nafplio, a town of particular historic and cultural significance, in close proximity to Epidaurus and Argos, where two of the country's most important ancient theatres are located. Our presence in this region serves as a constant reminder of the relation between theatre, history, cultural heritage, and vibrant artistic creation.  

Looking forward to the future, the key objectives of our Department are to strengthen research and interdisciplinarity, to expand academic and artistic collaborations and to leverage the opportunities offered by new technologies and contemporary forms of artistic expression, while at the same time maintaining the vital connection to the history and theoretical study of theatre.
