  • Introduction

The Internship (Practical Training) constitutes an institutionalized educational activity at the University and corresponds to a course within the curriculum. The Internship contributes to the more effective professional utilization of the knowledge and skills acquired by students during their studies, facilitates the smoother integration of higher education graduates into the labor market, and establishes a two-way channel for the exchange of information between the University of the Peloponnese and cultural, educational, and business organizations.

  • General Framework
Internship in the Curriculum of the Department of Theatre Studies

For the award of a degree in Theatre Studies, students of the Department may undertake an Internship, which is optional within the Department’s Study Programme. It is offered as an additional elective course from the 5th semester of studies onwards. Based on the estimated workload required to achieve the specified learning outcomes, the Internship corresponds to twenty (20) ECTS credits. These credits count toward the degree requirements and are included in the total number of credits for the relevant academic year.

An Internship completed through the Erasmus+ Programme is also recognized as an Internship and likewise corresponds to twenty (20) ECTS credits.

As with all other courses in the Study Programme, the Internship must be declared by students during the official course registration period as a course of the academic semester in which it is offered. It should be noted that selecting the course in the student information system does not automatically guarantee placement in an internship position.

  • Duration and Working Hours of the Internship in the Department of Theatre Studies

The Internship in the Department of Theatre Studies has a duration of three months and is carried out on a full-time basis. Each student is required to work at the Host Organization five (5) days per week, eight (8) hours per day. The Internship must be conducted on the premises of the Host Organization and cannot be carried out remotely.

In general, students are required to follow the working schedule assigned by the supervisor of the Host Organization, as well as all safety regulations, workplace rules, and any other policies applicable to the organization’s staff. During the Internship period, both the student and the representative of the Host Organization are required to maintain an Internship Logbook/Attendance Record.

  • Compensation and Insurance

Students undertaking an Internship outside the ESPA-funded programme do not receive any remuneration from the University. However, they are expected to be compensated by the Host Organization, subject to mutual agreement.

The compensation amount is set at €350 per month by the employing organization. These amounts apply to Host Organizations in the public sector. For Host Organizations in the private sector, these amounts constitute the minimum level of compensation for student internships. Therefore, private-sector Host Organizations may legally provide higher compensation amounts, in accordance with Joint Ministerial Decision No. 7543/2.10.2024 (Government Gazette B’ 5473) concerning the determination of monthly compensation for student interns of Higher Education Institutions.

Internship Implementation Procedure (Outside ESPA Funding)

The intern must first contact the Host Organization of their choice, determine the period of employment, and inform the Internship Committee accordingly.

For the valid commencement and completion of the Internship, the following steps are required:

  1. The Internship Agreement must be completed by the student and co-signed by a member of the Internship Committee on behalf of the Chair of the Department of Theatre Studies, as well as by the Host Organization.
  2. The Host Organization must complete the Certificate of Internship Completion and the Internship Evaluation Report for the student.
  3. The student must complete the Attendance Record/Logbook and the Internship Evaluation Report and submit them, together with all forms completed by the Host Organization bearing original signatures and official stamps, to the Secretariat of the Department of Theatre Studies.
  • Areas of Application

Due to the nature and orientation of the Department of Theatre Studies, which emphasizes research and artistic practice in fields such as theatre history and theory, as well as the analysis and production of theatrical performances, students may undertake internships in organizations and sectors directly related to their field of study. This enables them to acquire professional experience and familiarity with the professional environment, thereby facilitating their transition into the labor market after graduation
