The Examination Guide contains the core provisions that define the framework of the examination procedures of the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of the Peloponnese.
The Examination Guide and the Code of Conduct of the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of the Peloponnese, as detailed below, specify and apply in combination with the current legislation governing the operation of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the Code of Administrative Procedure, Law 3896/2010, and any legislation related to ethics/conduct, as well as the General Regulations of the Department of Theatre Studies, the Complaints Management Procedure, the Student Handbook of the Department, the Regulations of the Institution, and all other regulations posted on the website of the Department of Theatre Studies, MODIP (Quality Assurance Unit), the Gender Equality Committee, and the Ethics Committee of the University of the Peloponnese.
Communication with Instructors
We advise students to communicate with instructors during designated office hours, either via e-class, email, or in person following prior communication. The email addresses of the instructors and their office hours are posted on the Department's website. In the case of email communication, we recommend that requests be formulated in a clear and specific manner, keeping in mind that instructors may not always be able to view or respond to a message immediately.
Methods of Course Assessment
In courses where submitting an assignment is required as a method of evaluation, this may be combined with another method of examination, such as: midterm exams, presentations, a final written exam, or a final oral exam.
Specifically, artistic/practical courses are generally examined in two phases:
-
a) presentations/performances (preferably during the first week of the exam period), and/or
-
b) written exams, oral exams, or the submission of assignments/artistic portfolios (on a second date within the exam period or through midterm assessments).
Attendance and Participation in Courses and Department Events
Consistent attendance in the courses a student has registered for and wishes to be examined in constitutes a fundamental principle of the standard process of knowledge transmission and production at the university level, both theoretically and artistically, and serves as a measure of academic and artistic integrity.
However, attendance is formally mandatory in cases where the instructor deems it necessary. The instructor of each course determines the minimum number of required attendances to secure the right to take the final exam.
In any case, attendance in theoretical or artistic courses naturally requires timely arrival, non-disruption of the class due to late arrival, and participation until the very end. Timely arrival and staying until the end, without disrupting the process with continuous movement, also applies to student participation in Department events. Students must stay informed about events through the "Announcements" on the Department’s website and e-class, while the mandatory or optional nature of these events is defined by the organizing instructors if they take place within the framework of specific courses.
Participation in organizing, executing, and attending general Department events (lectures, performances, workshops, conferences, etc.) is considered an essential part of studying in the Department of Theatre Studies program and of the academic and artistic experience offered and validated by the Department community.
Correspondingly, instructors must be consistent in their teaching and administrative duties, uphold academic ethics, and foster an environment of mutual respect, transparency, cooperation, dignity, and academic integrity within classes and the Department, among the student body, and between the teaching and administrative staff.
Information and Adherence to Deadlines
Students are required to enroll in the e-class sites of the courses they attend, systematically follow the announcements made by the secretariat and the instructors on the Department's website, and strictly adhere to agreed deadlines.
Special Remarks Regarding Artistic Courses
-
In the artistic-laboratory courses of the 1st and 2nd year, as well as in elective courses within the theatre practice specialization or free electives that lead to presentations of artistic work or performances, independent weekly rehearsals in sub-groups must be carried out in addition to the weekly classes.
-
Student attendance in artistic courses and independent rehearsals is mandatory out of respect for the collaborative nature of artistic projects and as a measure of artistic "integrity," as mentioned above. The instructor of each course determines the minimum number of required attendances for both classes and rehearsals.
-
Rehearsals must under no circumstances overlap with the theoretical or practical courses attended by the participating students, unless a special agreement has been made between the respective instructors.
-
Independent weekly rehearsals within the framework of artistic courses generally take place between 09:00–12:00 in the morning in available rooms of the institution, based on the schedule maintained by the designated coordinator of the Department.
-
Intensive rehearsals take place only during the intensive rehearsal and presentation time zones designated by the Department, so as not to disrupt the smooth operation of the Department.
-
It is recommended that weekly rehearsals for artistic courses begin early in the semester and generally last at least 2 and at most 4 hours per week per course, except in extraordinary circumstances. The scheduling of intensive rehearsals and artistic presentations will be limited, with few exceptions, within the time frame of the 13th to 15th week of the academic schedule, the 1st week of the exam period, and/or the week following the final week of the exam period. Instructors of artistic courses coordinate with one another to ensure that student obligations for examined artistic courses do not overlap, and they mutually decide on the sequence of performances/presentations.
-
First- and second-year students do not participate in the artistic projects of the 3rd and 4th year, so that they can follow their own curriculum without hindrance.
-
In laboratory courses and independent rehearsals, the following are deemed absolutely necessary: mutual respect among fellow students, integrity, punctuality regarding arrival and departure, cleanliness and hygiene rules, care for the space, equipment, and objects, and adherence to quiet hours. In the event of damage or destruction, the Department's equipment must be repaired at the users' expense.
-
Promotional material for student performances/presentations must mandatorily mention the Institution (with its logo), the course, and the supervising instructor.
