The new Postgraduate Study Programme “Theatre, Education, Society” has been operating since the academic year 2025–2026 (FEK 5323/B΄/06.10.2025). It awards a Master's Degree and offers three specialisations: Theatre Studies, Performance Practice, and Theatre in Education. The programme recently underwent a highly demanding accreditation process conducted by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) and received the highest evaluation in all six assessment criteria. Particular recognition was given to its student-centred approach, its innovative integration of theory and practice, and its strong links with the performing arts sector, society, and the labour market. Through these features, the programme aspires to exert both local and international influence in the fields of performing arts and education. The programme is delivered through a blended distance-learning model, combining synchronous and asynchronous online teaching, while a number of courses are offered face-to-face. The curriculum is further enriched by the participation of distinguished lecturers from both academia and the professional arts sector. More information is available at: thes.uop.gr
Regarding previous postgraduate programmes:
The Postgraduate Study Programme “Drama and Performing Arts in Education and Lifelong Learning” operated from 2013 to 2024. According to its regulations (F.E.K. 3380/B/28.07.2021), the programme's objective was the study and advancement of knowledge in the field of Drama in Education and the Performing Arts, as well as the development of research and applications of Drama in Education and the Performing Arts both as methodologies for teaching and learning and as art forms within education and lifelong learning contexts.
The Postgraduate Study Programme “Theatre and Society: Theory, Performance Practice and Pedagogy” operated from 2018 to 2024. According to its regulations (F.E.K. 2328/B/12.05.2022), the programme focused on the relationship between theatre, other performing arts, and society, with particular emphasis on pedagogy and social applications. Its two specialisations combined theatre scholarship with applied research, reflecting the Department's dual orientation towards both theory and practice. The establishment of this programme was a natural outcome of the Department's longstanding tradition of linking teaching and research with society, including educational institutions and social organisations in the city and the wider region.
