The course aims to introduce students to the concept of inclusion, a central challenge of contemporary education in a context where student diversity generates new educational demands. Today’s classrooms are characterized by significant differences among students in terms of ethnicity, religion, nationality, social participation, and educational needs. The establishment of inclusive education constitutes a major challenge for modern democratic schools seeking to provide equal opportunities for all learners. Drama in Education (DiE) offers a particularly inclusive learning environment for both general and special education, as it promotes respect for diversity while creating opportunities for the equitable participation of all students in educational settings.
After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
• define the concept of inclusion;
• recognize the framework through which inclusion is approached within Drama in Education;
• identify the factors that contribute to educational exclusion and school segregation;
• distinguish between the concepts of disability and special educational needs within educational contexts;
• use appropriate and inclusive terminology;
• demonstrate sensitivity towards all forms of discrimination and exclusion;
• create inclusive learning environments;
• design Drama in Education programmes that respond to the diverse educational needs of contemporary classrooms;
• evaluate the individual components and activities of educational programmes.
