The Undergraduate Study Programme has been designed in accordance with the strategic planning of the institution and is fully aligned with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The programme is organised into eight semesters, corresponding to four years of study. Beginning with the academic year 2025–2026, two specialisation tracks have been formally established:
- Theatre Studies and Interdisciplinary Research Track
- Theatre Directing and Performing Arts Track
The first year of study follows an introductory approach, familiarising students with the field and its various dimensions, thereby enabling them to begin the gradual process of selecting a specialisation track from the second year onwards. Introductory courses are offered in theatre studies, the history and dramaturgy of modern Greek and world theatre, the characteristics and significance of ancient theatre and drama, the fundamentals of acting and directing, and related subjects. Students are also introduced to allied arts, including dance, cinema, and other artistic disciplines.
From the second year onwards, students gradually develop greater specialisation. A range of core courses remains compulsory for all students. The Theatre Directing and Performing Arts Track provides in-depth study of specific aspects of stage practice through specialised track electives, while the Theatre Studies and Interdisciplinary Research Track focuses on issues related to the aesthetics and theory of the performing arts. At the same time, theatre pedagogy in its various dimensions constitutes a central component of the programme. Faculty members from both tracks also offer a wide range of free elective courses that are open to all students.
The design of the Department’s undergraduate curriculum and any subsequent revisions proposed by the Curriculum Committee and approved by the General Assembly is guided by clearly defined educational objectives. These objectives are fully aligned with the strategic goals of the University of the Peloponnese, as recently articulated in its comprehensive Strategic Plan, to the development of which the Department actively contributed.
