The examination is written and covers three thematic cycles:

  1. Ancient Theatre or Modern Greek Theatre

  2. World Theatre

  3. Theatre Pedagogy

The syllabus for the qualifying examinations is posted on the Department's website https://ts.uop.gr/katataktiries-exetaseis.

Successful candidates are enrolled in the 2nd semester of study, following a decision by the General Assembly of the Department, but they are also credited with the courses of the 1st semester, excluding the three courses in which they were examined for their placement.

Article 3. Course Registration

Each academic year consists of two semesters. At the beginning of each semester, the student is required to register online the courses they intend to attend and wish to be examined in at the end of the semester. The registration dates are set by the General Assembly of the Department and announced by the Secretariat. A course that was not declared by a student during the registration period cannot be examined during the examination period of the current semester, nor during the September re-examination period.

Article 4. Lectures and Attendance

Each semester course includes thirteen (13) full weeks of teaching. In the event that a lecture does not take place or is postponed for any reason, it is the responsibility of the instructor to reschedule it. If the required number of teaching weeks for the course is not completed, the course is considered not taught and is not examined. Any examination of the course is invalid, and the grade is not calculated towards the award of the degree.

Attendance at the Department's courses is not mandatory for students. However, the instructor of each course may determine the minimum required number of attendances to secure the right to sit the final examination in the course. The student body must stay informed about events through the Announcements on the Department's website and e-class, while their mandatory or optional nature is defined by the instructors organizing the event, if these take place within the framework of specific courses.

Article 5. Examinations

The General Assembly (G.S.) of the Department determines the examination schedule in accordance with the academic calendar set by the Senate. Winter semester examinations begin one (1) week after the completion of semester classes, last for three (3) weeks, and are typically followed by one (1) free week before the start of spring semester classes. Spring semester examinations begin one (1) week after the completion of semester classes, last for three (3) weeks, and typically end by June 30. Each course is examined at the end of the semester in which it was taught and additionally during the September re-examination period, which lasts four (4) weeks.

The exam material includes the syllabus announced to the students from the beginning and during the course of the semester, combined with any clarifications or modifications made by the respective instructor. Examinations are conducted in writing or orally, at the discretion of the instructor. A course may also be assessed through written assignments, if this has been specified in the course description. In performing arts courses, examinations may also take the form of an open class or a theatrical performance.

Students who have completed the minimum number of semesters required to obtain the degree and have registered for the necessary courses to complete their degree have the opportunity to be examined in them during any examination period, regardless of whether the courses are taught in the winter or spring semester.

Students with Disabilities (FmeA) participate equally in all forms of examination in the Department of Theatre Studies. Requests for special examination arrangements must be submitted no later than two weeks before the start of the examination period to ensure sufficient preparation time. Special arrangements include:

a) Extension of examination time

b) Conducting an oral instead of a written exam or vice versa, where required

c) Use of assistive technological means

d) Presence of a support person

e) Accessible and appropriately configured examination rooms

Students with disabilities are examined with priority to facilitate the process and ensure their seamless participation.

The examination rooms are announced in a timely manner in the examination schedule. Upon arriving at each course examination, students are required to have their student ID card with them. A certificate of attendance at the exams is granted only to students who have registered for the course and are examined in it. The use of mobile phones is not permitted during examinations; they must be switched off. Mobile phones must under no circumstances be used during examinations. Leaving the examination rooms is not permitted before half an hour has elapsed from the start of the exam. Examinees are not allowed to take the exam questions with them before the end of each examination. Exam papers of students who attend examinations for courses they have not included in their registration at the Department's Secretariat will not be graded.

If a student is found cheating in any way, the invigilator must initial the student's paper and report them to the instructor. Cheating can also be detected by the instructor after the examination through a comparative examination of the content of the students' written papers. Subsequently, the instructor gives a zero grade to the student's paper and refers the matter by name to the General Assembly of the Department for further consequences for the student who committed the offense.

In certain courses, specific prerequisites are set (e.g., assignments, presentations, attendance, participation in seminars, practical training, etc.) in order for the student to sit for exams in the course or to receive a final grade. The student must have fulfilled all required conditions, as defined by each instructor, before being graded or sitting for exams. Otherwise, their examination is invalid or not graded.

Each professor determines the type of examinations they will apply during the student assessment process.

Article 6. Students’ Rights and Obligations

Every student of the Department of Theatre Studies (TTS) has certain rights and obligations directly linked to their student status, which apply throughout the duration of their studies at the University. Every student has the right to think, act, and express themselves freely within the University premises, provided they do not violate the relevant University Regulations. Students must not engage in acts that could damage University property or endanger the physical integrity of individuals on University premises.

Data held in the University records concerning the student's person are considered confidential and are not disclosed except with their written consent. Every student has the right to request from the University written certification of specific details related to their student status, such as academic transcripts, certificates of enrollment and year of study, etc.

In addition to the institution's regulations, the Department has established regulations, student rights and obligations, and academic/administrative procedures, which are recorded in the files of regulations and the student handbook, as well as in individual documents, instructions, and announcements posted on the website for the information of the entire academic community.

Students must keep themselves informed via the website about anything concerning the Department and their studies and must read the regulations, announcements, and student handbooks/instructions posted on the website for their information. The website constitutes the official means of informing the student/academic community and the public about the Department, particularly regarding the functions, structures, procedures, curriculum, staff, events, and news of the Department.

Students must respect academic ethics and avoid plagiarism when preparing various assignments assigned by instructors during their studies. In this context, the following are explicitly prohibited:

a) The use of intellectual creations of third parties and presenting them as their own when fulfilling specific obligations within the teaching or research process

b) Presenting assignments that have been prepared collaboratively with other students as an individual creation

c) Submitting part or all of an assignment that, while prepared to fulfill specific teaching or research requirements in the past, is re-submitted to fulfill different or new teaching or research requirements.

Violation of the above entails serious disciplinary penalties for the students who commit these offenses. Finally, impersonation in a procedure to fulfill a specific examination test concerning the evaluation of knowledge, skills, and abilities of students is explicitly prohibited and subject to disciplinary and criminal prosecution.

Students must be consistent with the academic standards of the courses provided in the Study Guide. In cases where a problem arises, they can contact their Advisor Professor and the administration of the Department accordingly.

Students have the right to establish special Student Associations that promote cultural, athletic, or academic matters.

Students are provided by law to elect representatives to the General Assembly of the Department of Theatre Studies and to the Deanery of the School.

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the School.

Article 7. Complaints Management Process

The Department follows a specific student complaints management policy aimed at resolving problems related to studies and attendance or issues of inappropriate behavior by fellow students or members of the academic and administrative staff.

When a problem arises, the student must approach their Studies Advisor for guidance and support. For matters concerning harassing behavior or discrimination related to gender and sexual identity, students can further approach the Departmental Representative of the Gender Equality Committee, who can confidentially bring the matter to the Institutional Committee or address the Department Assembly.

In the event that any issue is not resolved, the Studies Advisor may refer the student to the Department Assembly. The student then completes a "Complaints/Problems Submission Form," in which they record the problem/complaint they have, and submits it in electronic or printed form to the Department's Secretariat. The Secretariat forwards the problem/complaint, along with any supplementary material, to the Department Assembly, which further examines the issue.

Within a reasonable period of time (approximately 20 days), the student is informed by the Department's Secretariat about the actions taken, as well as the decision of the Assembly.

In case of a student's objection to repeated failure in exams (more than three [3] times), a re-examination by a three-member committee is appointed, as provided for in Article 65, paragraph 6 of Law 4957/2022. If for any reason objections are not dealt with in this context, students address the Department of Studies of the University of the Peloponnese, which advises the Department based on current provisions and the history of each case, and in special cases, towards the Senate.

Finally, for the settlement of issues concerning fellow students, instructors, or the governing bodies and services of the University, students can also activate the "Student Advocate". This specific structure examines cases of complaints concerning non-compliance with the provisions and rules of ethics and university legislation.

Article 8. Student Satisfaction Survey – Course Evaluation

The student satisfaction surveys of the Department are an important source of information regarding the quality and teaching method of the offered courses, as they help determine whether the goals of each course were achieved or not, so that appropriate adjustments can be made to ensure its success. Each semester, before the start of the examination period, students are invited to anonymously evaluate, by completing relevant questionnaires, their courses and instructors in accordance with the provisions of the Quality Assurance Unit (MO.DI.P.) of the Institution, aiming to improve the quality of their studies.

Based on the User Guide of the electronic course evaluation system of the University of the Peloponnese, which is posted on the website of the Institution's MO.DI.P. https://modip.uop.gr/images/stories/ergo-modip/axiologisi-modip-is.pdf, the student is asked to follow a series of steps to evaluate each course they have registered for and are attending in the current academic semester:

  1. Log in to the electronic secretariat system of the University of the Peloponnese (http://e-secretary.uop.gr

  2. Navigate to the section "My Registration"

  3. Select the course to be evaluated

  4. Complete the entire questionnaire (with the exception of the "Observations and comments" field, which is optional)

  5. Save.

Article 9. Degree Copy and Diploma Supplement

During graduation, along with the degree copy, a diploma supplement is automatically provided to all graduates of the Department of Theatre Studies. This supplement follows the model developed by the European Commission, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO/CEPES and is available in Greek and English.

Article 10. Graduation

The regular period of study in the Department is eight (8) semesters (4 academic years) and equals the minimum number of semesters necessary for the award of the degree. After the end of the regular study period, extended by four semesters, students can register for courses only if they meet the conditions for continuing their studies specified in the Institution's Regulations [source: 1]. For part-time students, the aforementioned case applies after the end of a period equal to twice the minimum number of semesters required for the award of the degree.

To obtain a degree, successful examination in fifty (50) courses is required, or in forty-eight (48) courses plus the completion of a Undergraduate Thesis (PE) corresponding to two (2) courses, or in forty-six (46) courses plus the completion of an Internship/Practical Training (PA) corresponding to four (4) courses, or in forty-four (44) courses plus the completion of both a Thesis and an Internship. The calculation of the students' degree grade is done according to the Senate Decision of the University of the Peloponnese (260/8/26.11.2024) with ADA 6ΕΠΞ469Β7Δ-ΤΦ2.

Article 11. Scholarships

There are no institutionalized scholarships for students of the Department of Theatre Studies at the undergraduate level, except for those from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) (Excellence Awards Program - 1,000 euros to the graduate of each Department who excelled). Students can find out about the scholarships announced through the Institution's website: https://career.uop.gr/ypotrofies.

Article 12. Mobility

The mobility of students of the Department of Theatre Studies takes place through the Erasmus+ program, which offers the opportunity for students of the Department to move—either for studies or for Internship/Practical Training—to 37 partner European Higher Education Institutions in the fields of Theatre Studies, Performing Arts, Fine Arts, Letters, and Humanities in general.

The Department has appointed a three-member Academic Erasmus+ Committee, which provides individual counseling to incoming and outgoing Erasmus students and performs the equivalence of their grades and courses at the host Institutions. The jurisdiction for the recognition of courses lies with the Department Assembly, which decides upon a recommendation submitted by the Academic Coordinators. The basic principles of the recognition procedure are reflected in detail in the "Credit Recognition Policy (ECTS)" posted on the Program's website (see erasmus-Credit Recognition Policy (ECTS) at http://erasmus.uop.gr/) and are communicated orally and in writing to the interested students prior to their departure.
