Course Description

The course aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts and methods of research in the humanities, with particular emphasis on research in theatre and the performing arts. It presents the basic principles that govern the research process and provides opportunities for their practical application through exercises, case studies, and individual assignments.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • understand the fundamental concepts of research methodology in the humanities;
  • distinguish among the various fields of theatre studies and their respective methodological approaches;
  • understand the processes involved in conducting theatre research;
  • identify primary and secondary sources relevant to theatre studies;
  • collect, classify, analyse, and synthesize research data;
  • compile a performance bibliography and documentation record;
  • make effective use of relevant scholarly literature;
  • cite and reference sources systematically and accurately;
  • retrieve, evaluate, document, and digitize archival materials;
  • document and substantiate the theatrical and performance-related materials they employ in their research;
  • demonstrate basic competence in the management of digital archives and databases.
