The Department of Theatre Studies (D.T.S.) of the University of the Peloponnese, which is part of the School of Fine Arts based in Nafplio, was established in 2003 (Presidential Decree 118/2003) and has been operating since the academic year 2003-2004. According to Article I of Presidential Decree 118 (paragraph 3 g, Government Gazette 102-5.5.2003), the mission of the Department of Theatre Studies is:
a) To cultivate and promote knowledge of the art and science of theatre studies, thereby combining theatre practice with theoretical thought, philological analysis, and scientific methodology.
b) To provide students with the necessary skills to ensure their comprehensive training for a scientific and professional career.
c) To organise postgraduate studies leading to the training of scholars with specialised knowledge in specific subject areas of the Department.
d) To contribute to the study of theatre at an international level.
Therefore, the Department of Theatre Studies aims to provide students with both theoretical and practical/artistic education in the art of theatre. For this reason, it combines practice with scientific methodology, equipping students with the necessary tools for their scientific and artistic careers.
