Compulsory Elective
The course introduces students to Greek, European, and American theatre, cinema, and fashion through the history of scenography and costume design. It focuses on scenographic and costume production as well as the analysis and interpretation of theatrical characters. Students develop the ability to create complete costume proposals and to produce a costume designer’s portfolio based on a selected dramatic text. By the end of the semester, they design and construct a full-scale (1:1) costume, presented as a performative action or installation in a gallery or cultural space.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
understand the process of scenographic and costume design production;
participate in this process as researchers or assistants to designers;
analyse theatrical characters;
develop initial costume design proposals.
