Course Description

The course focuses on scenographic analysis and the study of the Italian stage tradition. It combines practical exercises with theoretical exploration of the specific characteristics of the Italian stage, as well as scenographic approaches to the dramatic text. Based on textual analysis and dramaturgical interpretation, students develop and present specific scenographic proposals. Throughout the semester, the course deepens students’ understanding of stage space and its processes of construction, as well as the methodologies and tools of the scenographer. Special attention is given to spatial analysis, compositional strategies, and the representation of space through model-making.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • reproduce, both practically and orally, methods of creating stage space using scenographic tools (model-making);
  • interpret key concepts of the Italian stage tradition;
  • transfer acquired knowledge and skills to the design and presentation of stage space;
  • support the visualisation of dramatic texts;
  • analyze and synthesize stage space;
  • integrate understanding and practical application;
  • develop a dramaturgical–scenographic approach to the dramatic text.
