Theater Directing and Scenic Arts
Course Description

The course encourages students to create performance projects based on non-dramatic texts and to develop scenographic environments for both theatrical and non-theatrical spaces. It explores the creative reuse of urban and alternative sites, the relationship between scenography and contemporary visual arts, particularly installation art, and the connections between space, text, time, and performance. Through practical experimentation and collaborative work with courses in directing, dramaturgy, and lighting design, students develop and realize site-specific and interdisciplinary performance projects, culminating in the creation of a theatrical production.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • design and realize performance spaces based on non-dramatic texts in indoor, outdoor, and repurposed environments;
  • analyze, compose, and present visual and scenographic spaces;
  • apply methodologies for the development of scenographic concepts and spatial compositions;
  • connect scenographic practice with twentieth- and twenty-first-century visual arts;
  • integrate space, text, time, directing, and performance into a coherent artistic project;
  • enhance their creative and visual design skills through the development and presentation of performance work.
