Specialization
Theater Directing and Scenic Arts
Course Description

The course combines theoretical instruction with extensive practical application and is aimed at students in the Performing Arts direction. Its main focus is the hands-on exploration of the process of creating a stage event, with emphasis on rehearsal organisation, actor training and warm-up methods, the activation of performer initiative, the creation of conditions for stage action, and the use of scenic space. A further area of investigation is the role of the director within a theatre ensemble. Building on knowledge acquired in related courses, students are expected to develop a coherent understanding of acting, space, and text, and to apply this knowledge in the creation of directorial interpretations of selected scenes from dramatic works.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • organise and structure a theatrical rehearsal process;
  • apply basic actor training and warm-up methodologies;
  • work effectively with and within scenic space;
  • use fundamental principles of Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints method;
  • collaborate as directors within a small ensemble of performers;
  • maintain a rehearsal journal documenting their creative process;
  • develop and apply improvisational exercises based on Viewpoints;
  • integrate learned methodologies to create a short stage event (up to 4 minutes) based on a scene from a theatrical text.
