Course Description

The course explores verbatim approaches to theatre as a means of engaging with reality and history through documents, testimonies, and primary and secondary sources, with a particular focus on Ethnodrama and Documentary Theatre. It also provides students with practical tools and techniques to operate as active practitioners in contemporary post-dramatic, collective, and devised theatre contexts, assuming multiple roles such as performer, researcher, and dramaturg. In addition, the course develops competencies in applied theatre practice, preparing students to work as facilitators with communities, social organisations, vulnerable groups, and youth.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • apply performative and narrative strategies of post-dramatic, collective, and devised theatre;
  • design and implement ethnographic or historical research and transform it into performance material;
  • use tools and techniques associated with Ethnodrama and Documentary Theatre in artistic and applied theatre contexts;
  • operate effectively in multiple creative roles (performer, researcher, dramaturg);
  • facilitate theatre practices in social, educational, and community settings, including work with diverse and vulnerable groups;
  • understand and apply theatre as a means of empowerment, education, and social engagement in non-traditional performance contexts.
