The course focuses on the study and analysis of film works from different movements, trends, and historical periods (Italian Neorealism, Third Cinema, New Latin American Cinema, and contemporary Latin American film). Through the analysis of selected films, students are introduced to key theoretical approaches on the relationship between Cinema and History, particularly the work of Marc Ferro and later scholars.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • understand the role of newsreels and documentary footage in historical documentation;
  • identify and interpret major 20th-century historical events through cinema.
