Course Description

The course aims to explore the relationship between theatre and cinema. Through film examples drawn from different historical periods, students develop an understanding of the concept of theatricality as it is presented on screen.

After the completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • distinguish the influence of theatre on cinema. 
  • identify and examine the similarities between the two art forms on screen from the emergence of cinema to the present day. 
  • trace affinities, borrowings, and transformations from stage to screen. 
  • study the influence of theatre across different historical periods.
