Course Description

The course aims to introduce students to the concept of lifelong learning and to educational and social settings/institutions, in order to understand the role that Drama in Education (DiE) can play in achieving their respective goals. Topics for exploration may include interculturality, migrants, vulnerable groups, hospital education for children, patients at risk, patients with chronic illnesses, nursing homes, senior citizen centres, museum education and museums, education in prisons and juvenile detention facilities, spaces for creative engagement and recreation, summer camps, and others.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • understand the concepts of social exclusion and empowerment; 
  • distinguish lifelong learning from other forms of learning; 
  • apply basic principles of critical pedagogy as a pedagogy of empowerment; 
  • recognize the specific characteristics of various social and educational institutions where Drama in Education programmes can be developed; 
  • design programmes that respond to the needs of different institutions and target groups; 
  • develop, implement, evaluate, and revise educational programmes; 
  • adapt programmes during implementation and make justified methodological adjustments and combinations; 
  • evaluate individual actions as well as overall educational programmes.
