Course Description

Acting I focuses on practical training for students in the Directing specialization, with an emphasis on the stage handling of text. The course explores the word as a basic unit of meaning, its sonic and rhythmic properties, punctuation, address, and layers of signification, aiming to approach text as a flexible material for stage expression. Working primarily with non-dramatic texts, the course is based on the “Verbal Actions” method, combined with introductory elements of Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints, with particular attention to stage communication and the creation of collaborative performance actions.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • work with text on stage through its rhythmic, sonic, and semantic dimensions;
  • deconstruct and rework textual material for performative purposes;
  • apply basic principles of the “Verbal Actions” method and Viewpoints;
  • communicate on stage through collaborative verbal and physical actions;
  • use text as a flexible tool for stage expression.
