Course Description

The course aims to present the key milestones in the long process of reviving ancient tragedy and to examine the most representative stage productions presented worldwide, from the mid-19th century to the present.

After the completion of the course, students are expected to:

  • understand the historical development and distinguish the basic typology of modern and contemporary stage interpretations of ancient tragedy;
  • identify the defining characteristics and critically analyze contemporary productions of ancient tragedy;
  • have acquired research and presentation skills at a university level;
  • foster in students skills related to the nature of theatre itself, such as creativity, imagination, sociability, communication, and interaction.
