Course Description

The course explores the concept of total design, approaching it from large to small scale—from architecture to costume design—through the creator’s individual research and design process. It also examines the relationship between twentieth-century architectural morphology, the Modernist movement, cinema, and object design, as well as the historical evolution of forms from architecture to furniture. Through theoretical input and practical exercises in spatial design and presentation, students develop the ability to create spaces that either reconstruct historical periods or reflect their own aesthetic criteria. The course also introduces methods of research organization and supports the development of scenographic knowledge necessary for representing historical contexts in theatrical production.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • understand and reproduce methods of total design from architecture to costume on both practical and theoretical levels;
  • design and present spaces that reconstruct historical periods or express personal aesthetic approaches;
  • apply basic methods of research organization in design practice;
  • relate twentieth-century architectural modernism to cinema and object design;
  • synthesize the historical evolution of forms from architecture to furniture;
  • transfer acquired knowledge and skills to scenographic representation in theatrical contexts.
